When will air conditioners be back in stock in the UK?
The honest answer: in short, unannounced bursts across every heatwave. There is no fixed date — but the pattern is predictable enough to beat, if you know how it works.
If you have been hitting "out of stock" on every portable air conditioner worth buying, you are not alone, and you are not too late. UK retailers do restock during a hot spell — repeatedly. The problem is that nobody tells you when, and the good models sell out again before most people notice. Here is what actually happens, and how to be first next time.
The short answer
There is no scheduled restock date. Stock returns whenever new pallets arrive at a warehouse or online inventory is topped up, which can happen at any hour — including overnight. The windows are short, often under an hour for popular units, and they are never announced in advance. So "when" is less useful than "how fast can you be told."
How often do retailers restock?
During an active heatwave, sought-after models can come back several times a week — sometimes daily — in small batches. Crucially, each retailer replenishes on its own schedule. AO might restock a Meaco on Tuesday morning while Currys gets the same unit on Thursday afternoon. Watching one shop is a coin flip; the stock you want is probably landing somewhere you are not looking.
How long does stock last when it returns?
For the best models, minutes. A recent example from our own monitoring: a Meaco Pro 16000 returned to a major UK retailer at 5:29am and was sold out by 5:43am — a 14-minute window, at a price slightly above its usual one, and it still vanished. The more popular the model, the faster it goes. Meaco units in particular sell out almost instantly because they are the ones everyone has read to buy.
Which UK retailers restock air conditioners?
The stock you are waiting for cycles through all of these at different times:
- AO
- Currys
- John Lewis
- Screwfix
- B&Q
- Toolstation
- The Range
You can see exactly what is in stock right now, across all of them, on our live stock board — it rechecks every couple of minutes, so it reflects reality rather than a cached page.
How to actually catch one
- Pick your model and size now, while you have time — our BTU sizing guide takes five minutes — so you are ready to buy the instant stock appears instead of researching while it disappears.
- Watch every retailer at once, not one. Stock returns to different shops at different times.
- Get an alert instead of refreshing. The people who get one are not the ones refreshing hardest — they are the ones who were told the moment it landed.
That last point is the whole reason AirconAlert exists. We watch the UK retailers around the clock and email you the second your chosen model is back in stock.
Be first the moment your model is back
AirconAlert watches AO, Currys, John Lewis, Screwfix, B&Q and more, and emails you the instant a sold-out unit returns. Free, one email when it lands — no refreshing, no missing the 14-minute window.
